Overview
In the Android audio architecture, AudioFlinger acts as the system-wide software audio mixer, responsible for combining audio streams from multiple applications and resampling audio buffers to match the hardware’s active output sample rate. When upsampling standard 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz audio tracks to high-resolution rates (such as 96 kHz or 192 kHz) across budget USB Type-C DAC dongles or LDAC Bluetooth headphones, stock AudioFlinger parameters frequently introduce audible aliasing, ringing, and harmonic distortion.
Resampling for Cheapies is a specialized Magisk audio modification engineered to override stock AudioFlinger resampling filters. It replaces aggressive, imperfect interpolation curves with cleaner filtering algorithms, delivering noticeably cleaner highs, wider soundstage separation, and reduced digital glare on affordable external audio gear.
Key Acoustic Advantages
- Aliasing Suppression: Eliminates harsh high-frequency noise generated when standard streaming audio is upsampled to 96 kHz or 192 kHz.
- Optimized for Affordable Hardware: Tuned specifically for entry-level ESS Sabre, Realtek, and Cirrus Logic dongles where stock Android resampling reveals hardware limitations.
- Synergy with Audio Mods: Designed to pair seamlessly with other audio modifications (such as Audio misc. settings and Hifi Maximizer).
- Targeted Output Processing: Changes apply strictly to external outputs (USB DACs and Bluetooth LDAC), leaving built-in ear-piece and loudspeaker tunings untouched.
