Overview

Most battery saver modules rely on periodic background shell loops that poll dumpsys or execute aggressive CPU underclocking rules. This approach often results in noticeable frame drops during basic UI navigation, while the continuous execution of shell interpreters burns the very battery power the module attempts to save.

Developed by kaminarich, Battery Honey (Awaken edition) is a high-efficiency power and performance orchestration daemon. Written in Zig to achieve an ultra-compact memory footprint and zero runtime garbage collection, Battery Honey interfaces directly with Android kernel interfaces. It adapts the RaiRin-AI heuristic model to balance deep sleep power conservation with instant UI responsiveness.

Architectural Highlights

1. High-Performance Zig Binary

Battery Honey transitioned from a Rust codebase to a statically compiled Zig executable. This architectural shift ensures that the background supervisor consumes virtually zero CPU cycles, eliminates context-switching latency, and operates seamlessly across all modern 64-bit ARM (AArch64) Android kernels.

2. RaiRin-AI Power Logic

The daemon continuously evaluates system load metrics to calculate dynamic power states:

  • Active Navigation: Delivers unconstrained frequency ramping to ensure smooth 90Hz/120Hz scrolling across web browsers and messaging applications.
  • Static Screen Time: When the display is active but the user is reading static content, the daemon quickly steps down intermediate frequencies to curtail unnecessary wattage.
  • Screen-Off Deep Sleep: Immediately suspends non-essential hardware clocks and lowers memory bus floors when the screen locks.

3. Devfreq & GPU Bus Modulation

Rather than focusing solely on CPU frequencies, Battery Honey actively tunes Devfreq (device frequency scaling for memory buses) and GPU idle states. By trimming surplus clock headroom from the memory controller during video playback and casual browsing, it significantly reduces sustained battery drain.

WebUI Interface

Battery Honey includes an embedded webroot interface compatible with KernelSU, APatch, and MMRL:

  • Inspect real-time governor behavior and frequency status.
  • Monitor active power state transitions.
  • Configure profile parameters without editing terminal scripts.

Installation & Requirements

  1. Verify that your device has an AArch64 (ARM64) processor.
  2. Download the batteryhoney .zip from GitHub.
  3. Flash the archive through Magisk, KernelSU, or APatch.
  4. Reboot the device. The Zig daemon initializes automatically via service.sh.
