Overview
MIUI Alpha Launcher Mod (compiled and modified by Hanhan Hatsune, with upstream contributions from Sipollo and Xposeded) upgrades the stock Xiaomi desktop into a feature-rich, high-performance launcher.
Xiaomi regularly restricts experimental features—such as high-density grid layouts, fluid folder blur, gesture shortcuts, and icon hiding—to internal beta testing channels or specific flagship hardware. This module systemlessly mounts an optimized Alpha release that enables these hidden customization toggles for all devices.
Technical Architecture & How It Works
The Xiaomi launcher executes as a privileged system component (MiuiHome.apk):
1. Systemless Binary Mounting
The module binds the modified package into:
/system/priv-app/MiuiHome/MiuiHome.apk
By retaining OEM signature alignment and correct SELinux security contexts (u:object_r:system_file:s0), Android’s Package Manager seamlessly treats the binary as an authentic system update.
2. Custom Capability Overrides
The patched smali code unlocks several hidden features:
isSupportDoubleTapSleep(): Binds desktop gesture listener toPowerManager.goToSleep().getGridRowColumnList(): Injects flexible grid options up to 6 columns by 7 rows into launcher settings.isSupportBlur(): Re-enables hardware-accelerated RenderEffect Gaussian blur on folders and search bars.
Troubleshooting & Best Practices
- Gesture Freezes: If gestures feel unresponsive immediately following installation, reboot once more to allow the ART runtime to complete JIT compilation.
- Uninstalling: To revert to factory stock launcher, disable the module in Magisk/KernelSU and reboot. The stock system ROM launcher will automatically resume control.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will my current desktop layout and widget placement be reset?
No. Because the module preserves the underlying com.miui.home database in /data/data/com.miui.home/, existing shortcuts and widgets remain intact after updating.
Does folder background blur work on Android 12 through Android 14?
Folder blur is fully supported on high-end SoCs (Snapdragon 870, 888, 8 Gen 1+). On budget devices, Xiaomi hardware rendering policies may disable real-time Gaussian shaders to conserve GPU bandwidth.
